Descendants of WWII Rangers Scholarships

June 1 marked the final date for applicants to apply for one of the National Ranger Memorial Foundation’s $1,000 scholarship.   The 2011 campaign ended with 39 scholarships being awarded of which 5 went to WWII Ranger family members.  Those receiving a $1,000 scholarship are Briana J.Vermeer (St. Ambrose University), Emily Mannheimer (Northwestern University); Brianna Galbraith (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire); Alison Galbraith (University of South Dakota) and Nora Fulmer (Franklin & Marshall College). We are very proud of these Ranger family members.  More than $250,000 has been awarded to Rangers and their families since the program began in 2001.  In 2005, the amount increased from $750 to $1,000.  This year’s recipients bring the total of $1,000 scholarships awarded to 205.  “The $1,000 scholarships enable us to assist more Ranger families with educational expenses in today’s troubled economy.   We are helping tomorrow’s leaders”, said retired MG Kenneth C.Leuer, NRMF Chairman.”  Your donations to the RBA Scholarship Fund make a difference to qualified applicants to continue their education.  Every dollar counts.  We hope you continue to send in donations to such a worthy cause.  Parts of this article were taken from ANET 287, with permission from the NRMF.

General:

The Descendants of WWII Rangers is seeking qualified candidates who are descendants (direct or adopted) of WWII Rangers to compete for one of the $1000.00 awards to be applied towards the chosen applicants’ educational needs. The award money for the successful applicants will be sent directly to the applicant’s educational institution for administration.

The program has joined with that of the National Ranger Memorial Foundation (NRMF) as part of the continuing mission to support the Ranger community, past, present, and future. Endowment fund(s) have been created to fund the yearly awards to qualified applicants. The funds will be transferred to the NRMF for support of the our program.

While there are strict criteria as to who may apply, the scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants without any preference to race, creed, color, ethnic origin, or religion.

Awards will be made to promising high school seniors (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) who have been accepted by a state accredited two- or four-year educational or technical institution. Students already enrolled in an accredited institution who have demonstrated academic ability (3.0 GPA) can also compete for the award. Financial necessity is not a factor in awarding the scholarships.

To apply, you will need to go to www.RangerMemorial.org and go to "Services" in the left hand menu.

Ranking will be based on all of the above (Note that the program and requirements of the Descendants of WWII Rangers program are very slightly at variance with those of the NRMF.)

Applications are accepted from January 1st through June 1st of each calendar year. The winning applicants will be notified by e-mail in July of that year. The award will be sent to the applicant’s address, but the check will be made out to the applicant's educational institution and can only be used for educational purposes.

The Descendants of WWII Rangers Scholarship Committee will make appropriate recommendations to that of the NRMF for funding.
